"Ed Murray has worked hard for our neighborhoods..."

Representative Murray has made programs available to citizens from all walks of life in his district and throughout the city of New Orleans, including housing, senior citizen programming, after school tutorials, summer camps, and a computer technology village.

He brought more than $25 million dollars directly to programs and projects in his district. He has created programs to develop and renovate housing for elderly citizens. He provided funding for bringing blighted housing back into commerce. He sponsored Harmony House Senior Center, one of the oldest senior centers of its kind in the state.

Representative Murray sponsored after-school tutorial programming to students at Phyllis Wheatley Elementary School, McDonogh 42 Elementary School, Medard Nelson Elementary School, St. Paul the Apostle Catholic School, St. John #5 Baptist School, McDonogh 35 Senior High School, and Dillard University. He also made possible funding for the St. Augustine High School Band to go to the 2002 Rose Bowl Parade, and provided support for the St. Peter Claver Theatre company.

He helped allocate monies supporting the New Orleans Computer Technology Village, where students can train in the repair and maintenance of high technology equipment, preparing them for well-paying jobs in the workforce. Here, senior citizens are also taught basic computer literacy.

Representative Murray has worked hard to improve the quality and availability of healthcare in our community, from sponsoring programs which highlight the dangers of obesity to establishing new funding for cancer treatment and research. Ed Murray has strengthened workers compensation laws to protect Louisiana workers when they are injured on the job. He also sits on the HIV/AIDS Commission, which works to help promote awareness about AIDS in our community.

Representative Murray has been working hard in Baton Rouge to bring new businesses to New Orleans and to make sure that the strong business we have here stays here. He helped negotiate the financial support necessary for the the New Orleans Saints football team to stay in New Orleans. He worked to bring the New Orleans Hornets basketball team to New Orleans, realizing that these and other sporting activities bring many, many millions of dollars in revenue to the city of New Orleans each year. He also fought to expand the Ernest Morial Convention Center, opening our doors to $75 million dollars more in tourist dollars annually.

Representative Murray has helped pass legislation to reform the Juvenile Justice system and he authored laws which made theft of cemetary artifacts a felony. He has worked with the justice system to strengthen Louisiana's laws in the face of the 911 event and recent crime waves.
